How Do You Build a Community on Medium?
I have been squeezing my brain and trying to figure out for the last few months what the purpose of Medium is; why do we need it? Why do people come here, and what do they need from Medium?
The more I dig into Medium, the more I find that writers who fail to create communities will fail miserably at earning money or having a group of engaging followers that keeps the writers’ article alive. I see plenty of writers who get many comments yet never leave a response for the commenter or answer a question.
People come here to learn new stuff, talk to writers, and exchange ideas; I believe if a writer isn’t interested in building a community or talking to strangers and having a bit of humility to speak with the reader, they shouldn’t bother and write on Medium.
Building communities also doesn’t equal that a writer can randomly mass tag writers to join challenges or answer questions on topics the tagged writers aren’t interested in reading or answering.
I won’t tag any person unless the article concerns them personally. I would work hard to engage with my readers and make them tag me in their writings as a source of inspiration or valuable knowledge.
