I so agree with you, Sherry. When I wrote to other publications (not including the hub publication), I had to edit my tone consistently to fit the publication's requirements. Some publications ask you to twist the truth to get more clicks; I don't want to do that. I also started to have no desire to write because I had to stick to strict tones, not anymore. Now I write whatever comes to mind the way I like it.
