My friend, if we eliminate the tools of healing or tuning down pain, such as meditation, then we have to eliminate the tools that eliminate suffering, such as awareness and mental flexibility. How can we say suffering is optional when we are living inside it? A psychopath might not feel any emotional pain. I'm not a psychopath, and I don't feel emotional pain, but rather, I feel that sometimes I'm struggling, and it's not optional. I neither decided to suffer nor wish to suffer, yet sometimes I suffer without feeling any pain. Suffering and pain are both products of the mind—perception and sensation. Just like we say that suffering can be fixed with the right mindset, we can also say that pain is treated with meditation. That makes it a complete argument. What do you think?
