The way they speak is a lot like Mandarin. My friend from the UK and I went to both Malaysia and Singapore. In Malaysia, understanding English was easy. But in Singapore, when we were at a workshop, two people talked. They asked what we thought, but we didn't know they were speaking English. I'm okay with Malay, but the Singapore accent takes time to understand.
