Think and Grow Poor

Three days ago, I was at a toy store shopping for a few toys for myself and the son of one of my best friends. I love the look in his eyes whenever he sees Uncle Nour holding a big box filled with toys in his hands. While the store assistant guided me through the newest and sexiest toys, I heard a kid crying, standing with his mother, arguing over buying a sexy transformer model.

I love observing people and learning why they do or don’t buy stuff. I looked at my friend who owns the store and smiled; he said quietly, sorry, we get that a lot in store.

The mother doesn’t look poor; she looks rich; however, everything she said sounded poor. They went into a battle as the kid wanted the toy, and the mother shouted put that model away; it’s too expensive. Wooot??? Her Hermes bag and Louis Vuitton eye wears looked nothing but expensive.

I wanted to bang my head on the glass wall, frustrated about the problem. Why doesn’t she want to buy the toy? And If she doesn’t want to buy it because she wants to teach her kid a lesson on how to be disciplined, then why she mentioned money? She could trick the kid and say, “ I have a better toy for you in mind, and I plan to buy it for you later as a surprise gift.” Then trick the kid into a different topic, and by the way, why are they in the toys shop anyway?
