Why Do You Read on Medium?
Somehow I feel we writers are selfish and ignorant with caring about our beloved readers' interests. Their money puts the food on our table, yet we seldom take the time to ask them what they like to learn and read.
Almost everyone here talks about how to write better articles, how to tell more engaging stories, and how to craft sexier headlines, but have you ever thought about why people read on Medium and what is the value of Medium to its readers?
Today, while standing in a public toilet paying my duty, I asked myself why I was writing about my crappy stories; I mean, why do I think people want to learn what I write about or even care about my wisdom?
I used to believe the more content I create, the more I engage with my audience, build a brand around my expertise, and have more readership and followers. But that’s all about me, not my readers.
Today I found that If I keep following that strategy, I’m only creating more information or trash that doesn’t bring enormous value to Medium readers.
Many of us complained about the quality of writing here, but have we tried to fix it or better understand how to give better value to our readers? Perhaps the writers who write about how to make a million dollars in a month think that readers believe this shit and want to read more articles like that. Why…
