Why Perfectionists Are Broke
Move it a little bit to the left, nope, a couple of inches to the right, no, stop! I said two inches, not two and a half, okay, put it down, ugh, screw it; it’s not going to work; ditch it and start over.
Dear perfectionist, here is a chair; sit down and take a little rest; how are you feeling today? Don’t you feel tired and exhausted from your perfectionism? You have many small things to worry about, yet with no financial reward.
How’s your bank account doing recently? The last time I checked on you, you struggled to pay the electricity bill. Isn’t it time to turn your bank account from a featherless skinny chicken into a fat cow? Shouldn’t you relax a bit and stop worrying about things that don’t significantly affect the bottom line of your work?
Most people confuse the concept of perfectionism and achieving perfection, the first concept is a sign of mental weakness, and the second is an indicator of mental strength. Perfectionism kills creativity and spontaneity from one’s work and makes one focus on things that don’t feed them decent food.
Perfectionism makes artists never sell their artwork in a public marketplace, writers never publish articles on a small platform, and singers never perform on a simple stage just because they think they are not there yet! Hmm, not there yet? Neither they nor I know where “there”…
