Yes, it is sometimes irritating and feels irrelevant when people start following you with no engagement at all. Medium has too many bots, fake profiles, and spammers. However, some people with empty profiles are readers too. I get so many followers every day, and I never have any engagement with them—all new people every day. Maybe it's just a ritual for people to appear as ghosts. I mean, who knows? 🤷
